Turkey’s National Intelligence Service (MIT) and police have arrested an Iranian surveillance network in eastern Turkey. This was reported by a security source on Wednesday.
The network of eight members, two of whom were agents from Iran, was arrested in a joint operation by MIT and police on September 24.
Iranian intelligence officers were found trying to set up a 30,000-budget network in Van Turki province to kidnap a former Iranian soldier, who defected with the initials M.A.
“they threaten the safety of her family in Iran”
Members of the network, followed by MIT, were ordered by Iranian intelligence officers to offer MA’s wife $10,000 to help them in the kidnapping.
The wife, identified only by the initials M.E., was threatened by the network that her family living in Iran would be harmed if she refused.
MIT and police arrested the members of the network after they were sent to Van to kidnap MA in order to return him to Iran in a vehicle.
On September 24, a Turkish citizen with the initials M.E.A, and an Iranian national named S.S., who tried to enter the residence to kidnap the former Iranian soldier were arrested. Six other Turks were also arrested in the operation there.
