Chelsea Win 3-0 Over Tottenham

Chelsea beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in the fifth week of the Premier League match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Sunday (19/9) local time. The result made Chelsea carve a new record, namely six consecutive away wins in derbies against London teams.

In addition, Thomas Tuchel’s team also pushed up to the top of the standings in alphabetical order after a collection of 13 points and a surplus goal difference of 11 that they have equal to Liverpool. Meanwhile, Tottenham did not move from seventh position in the standings, failing to add to their nine points after two consecutive defeats, according to the official Premier League website.

The first half of Tottenham vs Chelsea ended goalless, after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made an important save on the home side through Son Heung-min while two good chances for the visitors were wasted by Mason Mount and Kai Havertz. Four minutes into the second half, the deadlock was broken when Thiago Silva leaped higher than Bamidelle Alli to head home a Marcos Alonso corner which keeper Hugo Lloris missed to open Chelsea’s lead.

Chelsea would have almost doubled their lead in the 53rd minute had Alonso’s flick finished Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross not blocked by Eric Dier before crossing the goal line. Ironically, four minutes later Dier’s effort to block N’Golo Kante’s long-range shot saw the ball swerve around Lloris, so Chelsea actually doubled their lead.

Tottenham could hardly do anything about it and Lloris was busy making save after save against threats from Silva, Timo Werner and Mateo Kovacic’s close-range effort. Unfortunately, Lloris was left dead in the second minute of injury time when Antonio Ruediger completed Werner’s cross and completed Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Tottenham.

The two teams next face off in the Premier League Cup third round on Wednesday, when Chelsea host Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge and Tottenham travel to Molineux against Wolverhampton. Then on Saturday, Chelsea will have a big game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge and a day later Tottenham have another London derby at the Emirates against Arsenal.
