City Beat Chelsea At Stamford Bridge

Manchester City stopped the bad results from the last three meetings which always lost to Chelsea. City stopped this trend by silencing Chelsea 1-0 in the sixth Premier League match at Stamford Bridge, Saturday (25/9). Gabriel Jesus’ goal in the second half became City’s winner.

The victory immediately lifted the Citizens’ position to second place with a value of 13. Chelsea, previously at the top, dropped to third with the same value.

Flow of the game

City immediately step on the gas as soon as the game starts. The Citizens are so aggressive and fast in launching attack after attack. The Blues were forced to defend and rely solely on counter-attacks. The home team looked difficult to break the rhythm of City’s game and take control of the game.

At least until the first 15 minutes of the match, City were even able to record possession of the ball to reach 70 percent. The Blues finally could really get out of the pressure City in around the 20th minute. However, the Blues’ attacks often stopped before entering the visitors’ penalty box.

On the other hand, City continued to bombard Chelsea’s defense. Variations of attack, both from the left or the right side of the field, the team made by Pep Guardiola was able to demonstrate. Jack Grealish, who was plotted as a left wing, had several times managed to send the ball into the front of the Blues’ goal mouth.

Likewise, through the penetration of Gabriel Jesus and feedback from Kyle Walker. Even so, the Citizens’ various attacks can still be countered, either through the bow of the Chelsea back line or the alertness of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

In the 38th minute, Man City’s attacking midfielder Kevin de Bruyne found space to unleash a powerful shot from outside the box. Unfortunately, the ball from the Belgian attacking midfielder’s shot still bounced over the Chelsea crossbar.

Three minutes later it was Jesus’ turn to get a golden opportunity. Starting from the action of Phil Foden who pushed into the penalty box, Jesus had time to take advantage of the bait that was released by Foden. However, Jesus’ kick instead flew to the right of the Chelsea goal. The first half finally ended without a single goal being scored.

In the second half, City adopted a similar approach in the first half. Pressing tight to the field of the Blues field and continuing to control the game through possession of the ball. The second half had only been running for less than five minutes, City had a chance through Grealish’s curling kick from the right side of the Chelsea defense.

Grealish directed the ball to the bottom left corner of the Blues goal but it was still wide. City finally really broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute through Gabriel Jesus’ goal. Joao Cancelo kick from the edge of the penalty box fell to the feet of Jesus.

While turning his body to find a gap, the Brazilian player then released a kick from the middle of the penalty box. The ball, which had hit the feet of the Chelsea players, then changed direction and rolled to the right side of the Chelsea goal without Mendy being able to anticipate.

City even had a golden opportunity to double the advantage in the 61st minute. Through an attack built by Grealish, Cancelo released a kick which was finally driven out by Mendy. The rebound ball from Mendy’s direction was struck by Jesus. However, Thiago Silva managed to clear Jesus’ kick before crossing the goal line.

The home team was not without a fight. A Chelsea counter-attack in the 63rd minute had tore the City goal. Romelu Lukaku managed to maximize the bait Kai Havertz, who came on to replace N’Golo Kante. However, the referee annulled the goal because Harvertz was already standing in an offside position when he was involved in the attack scheme.

Chelsea seemed to be running out of ideas to penetrate the City’s neat defense. Attempts to play long balls leading directly to Lukaku were made, but also to no avail. Chelsea’s dominance over City with wins in the last three games was finally stopped by defeat.
