Charlie Watts, best known as the drummer for the legendary group The Rolling Stones, passed away in London on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in London, England. Charlie Watts died at the age of 80. One of Watts’ relatives said Charlie Watts died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Watts who was born in London on June 2, 1940 when England was still under German bombing. Watts is the drummer for the band The Rolling Stones who has been with the legendary group the longest. Charlie Watts joined The Rolling Stones in 1963. Mick Jagger and Keith Richard formed the band in 1962.
When they first founded the band, Jagger and Richard had invited Watts to join but Watts refused because he was still part of another band. It wasn’t until 1963 that Watts accepted Jagger and Richard’s offer to join the band, which eventually became a band that is still loved by fans around the world.
Born Charles Robert Watts, Charlie Watts married Shirley Ann Shepherd in 1964 and they have a daughter, Seraphina Watts. Watts died of throat cancer that attacked him in 2004. Watts has recovered from his cancer and can return to his normal activities. However, recently the disease has reappeared.
Mick Jagger himself is reportedly very saddened by the departure of Charlie Watts. Jagger said, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Charlie Watts. He died peacefully in a London hospital surrounded by his family on Tuesday.”
