The recent political chaos in the US has inspired Hillary Clinton to write a thriller. In collaboration with acclaimed writer Louise Penny, a thriller titled State of Terror is slated for release this October.
It tells the story of a secretary of state who faces the daunting task of rebuilding America’s leadership, after years of waning influence abroad. The test then escalates when a wave of terrorist attacks threatens the stability of the world order.
The book will be published by Pan Macmillan, Simon & Schuster and St Martin’s Press. In a statement, Clinton described writing with Penny as a dream come true.
“I enjoyed every book, the characters and their friendships. Now we work together to explore the complex world of diplomacy and high-stakes treason,” he said as reported by the Guardian on Wednesday (24/2).
Penny is a Canadian novelist best known for her novels. He is friends with Hillary Clinton since 2016. Penny is also one of the richest writers of all time.
“When Hillary and I were suggested to write a political thriller together, I didn’t immediately agree. Before we start, I want Hillary to tell me about her experience while serving as Secretary of State. What was her worst nightmare? State of Terror is the answer,” said Penny.
Hillary Clinton is not the first politician to write a political thriller novel. The subgenre has been popularized by her husband who is also former US President Bill Clinton. Bill has written two thriller novels with great novelist James Patterson, namely The President is Missing which has sold over two million copies in North America and was the best selling adult fiction book of 2018.
This summer, they followed up with a second novel called The President’s Daughter, which tells the story of a former US president whose daughter is kidnapped. Its first printing has sold over a million copies.
